In late December 2022, readers inquired about whether a pasta product, Ronzoni Pastina, labeled by the company as No. 155, had been discontinued.
We reached out to the company to ask about the rumor. By phone, we were able to confirm that the news was real and was not a hoax. Ronzoni Pastina, No. 155, truly had been discontinued.
By email, 8th Avenue Food & Provisions provided an official statement to us. 8th Avenue completed its acquisition of the Ronzoni dry pasta brand effective May 31, 2021.
The statement read as follows:
We regretfully announce that Ronzoni Pastina is being discontinued. This beloved product's unique small size and star-shape require specialized production from a third-party manufacturer. Our long-term manufacturer informed us they would cease producing Ronzoni Pastina effective January 2023. Despite exhaustive efforts, we have been unable to identify a viable, new manufacturer who could make Pastina in the same shape, size and standards that Ronzoni customers have come to expect from this comforting classic.
We haven't given up, but as of today, we can no longer offer Ronzoni Pastina. We thank you for your understanding and support of Ronzoni Pasta.
Previously, a very different statement was also provided to some customers.
"At one time, we manufactured this product," the previous statement read, referring to Ronzoni Pastina, No. 155. "Unfortunately, there were insufficient sales to support continued production and it has been discontinued."
This earlier statement appeared to have been shared by customer support representatives just after the Christmas holiday. Those representatives perhaps had not yet been fully informed of all of the facts.
This story will be updated if further details come to light.
